Monthly Golf Tips by Mel Sole Golf School.

In golf, preparing for your shots is every bit as important as how you execute a shot. In this month's Mel in Motion video golf tip, Mel offers suggestions for how you can effectively prepare for that perfect swing. It might sound simple, but don't underestimate the importance of this fundamental aspect of your game!

We have all heard the saying, "Practice makes Perfect."  The correct saying should be  "Practice builds Confidence." When going to the course, if you know you have practiced your weak shots, you have prepared yourself for success!

How to Practice!

By using a stats program (there are a ton online), you can see where your strengths and weaknesses in your game lie.  By practicing these shots and ignoring the temptation to practice the parts of the game you are good at (most people do this), you prepare yourself to execute your weak shots a lot better next time you go and play!  Remember, Preparation makes perfect and also builds confidence.  The three people who, in my opinion, were the best preparers in the game were Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.  All three of these players walked to the first tee on day one, expecting to win that week.  They knew that they had prepared and were ready to compete against the best in the world.

A Story.

I like telling stories to make a point in my teaching for those of you who know me.

A gentleman once asked ben Hogan how much he would charge for a lesson.  $100, said Ben. (this was around 1952)  Why so expensive?  the gentleman asked.  "Because that is how much I would lose in the next tournament if I stopped practicing and taught you!"
