Over The Top - Gone!

This is a great drill to help you get the clubhead started on the target line!
I work constantly with my students to get them to stop "coming over the top" The over the top move is when the downswing plane is "over the top" of the backswing plane. There are two ways to get rid of this move.
1, Start your downswing with a lateral movement of the hips. This will allow the hands to drop down "in the slot" and allow the club to travel "down the line" and help you hit the ball a lot straighter.
2. Start the downswing by dropping the rear elbow straight down into the hip. Shift and turn the body in a continuous motion to allow the clubhead to approach the ball more from the inside. This will also allow the club to travel toward the target.
Check you divots to see if you are doing this correctly. The divot should be at the target or even slightly inside-out, you're doing the drill correctly. If the divot is traveling from outside to in you still have to work a lot harder to get it.
