Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.
I worked with many students over the years on what I think is one of the most important aspects of hitting a golf ball, and that is keeping the clubhead moving down the target line as long as possible. I covered this in the past with some of my tips but working with students who struggle to move right always makes me think of new and better ways of doing things. This month's tip is no exception.
If you struggle to keep the clubhead moving down the target line, try this:
Point your finger down the shaft as in picture #1.
Hit some short pitch shots finishing pointing your index finger towards the flag—#2.
Make sure the left arm remains straight throughout the shot. Keep your spine angle through the shot, and do not lift it too early. Keep looking at the spot where the ball was until the ball is well on the way—#3.
By first doing the drill in this manner and then applying it to the full swing (minus the extended index finger), you should start hitting the ball a lot straighter. Point your way to straighter shots. Give it a try next time you're on the range!
