Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.
In our February 2018 Golf Tip, we talk about practicing at home to improve your golf when the weather outside is nasty. By doing these drills every day, you can develop a solid routine. A good putting stroke will stand you in good stead throughout the coming months. This is not only for the golfers who do not have the ability to practice outdoors because of the winter weather but also for those who may not have time to get in some meaningful practice because of the short days. February and March are good times to work on your putting stroke, especially the stroke mechanics. By working in the next two months, you can develop a putting stroke that you can put on automatic in the spring and summer for great results.
Practice at Home builds good habits.
Place your head on the door jamb to help keep the head perfectly still while putting. As I have said many times, there is perception and reality. Sometimes golfers think they are keeping their head still, but in reality, they are not. This way, you get to feel what keeping the head still feels like. When you go out onto the course, you will know immediately as soon as you move your head. It takes about 3 months to really develop a habit, so don't just do this once or twice and think you have it. Put the putter near the door, and each time you walk past, pick up the putter and do this drill for five or six minutes. Make indoor practice a habit. You'll love the results.
Let's make 2018 a great year for your putting stats! Start early in the season by keeping the number of putts you have during the round. Keep up the practice and see the number of putts drop over the coming year! You're welcome!
