Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.
Welcome to our 1st-anniversary issue of Mel In Motion! We've now been bringing you monthly video golf tips for one year. Thanks for joining us!
What to do when the ball lands in a spot that requires a right-handed golfer to make a left-handed shot (or vice versa)? In this month's Mel In Motion video golf tip, Mel shows you a technique for solving this awkward situation that doesn't require you to forfeit a stroke.
The Problem.
You find yourself up against a tree with the tree trunk exactly where you would normally stand. Left-handed shots for right-handed golfers are required. In the beginning, this might be a difficult shot for some of you. And as I say in the video, this shot will not save you a tone of shots. Maybe one or two shots a year. But those couple of shots, depending on where they occur, can be a life-saver if you know how to play them.
The Solution.
Use your lob wedge or Sand wedge for this shot. Those clubs have a larger face, making this shot slightly easier. Flip the club over, so the club's toe touches the ground and takes a left-handed stance and a left-handed grip. Keep the swing short and attempt to keep the lead arm straight through impact. This will help you make solid contact with the ball. This shot will normally only go anywhere from 30 to 50 yards, but that is all you need to get out of trouble or back to the fairway. Keeping the head steady is critical, so focus on that as well.
I actually practice this shot about twice a year. But I really have fun seeing how good I can be!
