Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

This month we talk about getting creative!  Working on short game shots that will enhance your skillset around the greens.

The ultimate short game player was Seve Ballesteros.  I don't think you will ever have a short game like Seve.  However, you can make your short game a whole lot better than it is right now!

Practicing for feel.

Take a sand wedge and play a pitch shot of about 30 yards to a flag on a green.  After 20 to 25 shots, change to a gap wedge.  Another 25 shots and change to a pitching wedge, then a 9 iron, then an 8 iron, then a 7 iron.  All these shots are to the same flag.  You learn to flight the ball, play bump and run shots, all the while developing a great touch around the green.

One of Tiger Woods' strengths around the green is he had five or six ways to play a particular shot.  He picked the shot he felt most comfortable in that situation on that day.  He always had a huge amount of confidence in his ability.  Why?  Because he had practiced those shots over and over.  His subconscious knew exactly how far to take the club back and how fast to swing it through.

To develop your best short game, get creative!

Practice bunker shots with a sand wedge, a gap wedge, a pitching wedge, a 9 iron, and so forth.  The more creative you can be, the better your short game will become.

Now that you know How to Practice Your Short Game and develop a feel go out and enjoy your newfound skills on the course!
