Today we discuss how to get rid of the over-the-top downswing by swinging inside to out to miss the water bottle and make a solid strike of the golf ball.  This drill will help you make a more consistent golf swing.

The over the top move is one of the most common flaws in any golfer's swing.  The reason is they erroneously think that they have to spin the hips as they start the downswing.  Remember, the hips are attached to the shoulders, so if the hips spin out, the shoulders do too, and this will cause the over-the-top move.  The anti over-the-top move is to start the downswing with a lateral movement of the hips. This forward movement allows the club to drop down into the "slot" and keep the clubhead behind the hands on the downswing.  This, in turn, allows the clubhead to approach the ball from the inside, producing an anti slice inside-out clubhead path!

The Drill.

Take a water bottle and place it just outside the path of the clubhead on the way through.  Any over-the-top move will cause the golfer to hit the bottle—a great way to get feedback on an error in the swing.
