For the first time in a very long time, Olympic Golf becomes a reality. But not all the players are thrilled as I thought they would be. Most have even opted out of the Pre Olympic trial run in Rio, deciding that the regular tour was more important. Nevertheless, I think it is a HUGE honor to represent your country will only hit them as they walk into the Olympic Stadium during the Opening Ceremony. Then there will be a huge "WOW, I glad I'm here!"
The Major Championships are important, don't get me wrong, but the Olympics comes along only once every four years. I guess that these professional golfers, once they hear back from the 2016 participants, will be playing their tails off. To get picked for 2020!

Count Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler among those who would take a major championship over an Olympic gold medal. The choice is not so clear for Henrik Stenson, but it's a no-brainer for Martin Kaymer.
McIlroy, a Northern Irishman who is expected to be part of the Irish golf team, called the prospect of playing in the first Olympic golf competition since 1904 “just another week” when asked where taking part in the Rio Games featured in his plans for 2016. “The main focus is on the majors and the Ryder Cup,” he said.
American Rickie Fowler agrees unequivocally.
“I’ll take a major,” said Fowler, whose three PGA Tour victories do not include a major championship, though he posted top-5 finishes in all four big events in 2014.
When pressed, Fowler said: “A major is a major, and it’s always going to be a major. Until this year, recent years, the Olympics was never really even a thought for us. So they are just completely at different ends of the spectrum.”
