Hi, I’m Mel Sole, Director of Instruction at the Mel Sole Golf School, headquartered at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club in Pawleys Island, SC.  We conduct 1, 2, and 3-day golf schools, hourly golf lessons, and senior golf schools—any golf instruction program your heart desires. Give us a call at 800-624-4653 or 843-237-4993.  We will be happy to book a commuter school or a package that contains accommodations, golf, and golf school.

Knowledge of the Rules of Golf will help your game more than you realize.  It can prevent you from adding shots to your score for violating a rule or save you shots by knowing the rule.  Buy yourself the latest USGA's Rules and Decisions.  It's a fun way to learn the rules without having to read the very boring Rule Book.

A Loose Impediment is anything that you can move easily. (although Tiger got the gallery to move a boulder for him because he got the office to agree that it was a loose impediment.) Including pebbles, grass, pine cones, leaves, etc., etc. Even if your ball is sitting amongst the pine straw or twigs, they are still deemed loose impediments, and if you can move them without moving your ball, you may do so. (Glad I played Pick Up Sticks when I was a child!)

What is NOT a loose impediment is sand (Isn't sand just very tiny pebbles), So you cannot move sand if it's on the fringe or fairway.  However, sand IS a loose impediment on the putting surface (confused yet?)  Can you see why I continually stress that it's good to know the rules? I'm sure there are rules that the rules officials don't know!
