Club fitting is a hot trend right now. But does the average, high handicapper need it?
I've been asked this question recently by golfers. The answer is yes, yes and yes. You can't play good golf with clubs that don't fit your swing.
My own students have proven to me the value of club fitting. Several have dropped 5 strokes per round, gained distance, and hit the ball much straighter. I don't have to tell you that these golfers are having more fun!
And today's club manufacturers make club fitting a snap with their variety of computerized equipment that gives quick read-outs of each golfer's specifications. For example, my launch monitor measures ball speed, spin rate, launch angle, and more. Then, I get each individual to hit 2 or 3 drivers to compare numbers provided by the launch monitor. I hear “wow!” a lot when my student looks at the data with me, which is pretty compelling.

Because I love Mizuno irons, I became a Certified Mizuno Clubfitter and used their fitting system every week. As a result, I can determine lofts and lies quickly and match each person's ideal iron shaft, weight, and length.
Why do I need a lesson if my equipment is fitted to my own body & swing? It would help if you still executed the shots under the supervision of a good Instructor who will ensure that your swing sequence is in the proper order to produce more power and accuracy.
I like best as a teacher because club-fitted students who have produced better swings with me at the golf school will keep the momentum going once they're back home.
