Today we discuss bunker shots, and in particular, escaping from a buried lie. This shot at first looks really intimidating, but once you understand the correct technique, this shot will become one of your favorites!
Take your normal bunker stance. Hood, the clubface until the face of the club, is facing your lead toe. It would help if you hooded the club, so don't be afraid. This is going to work because of the hooded face. It would help if you hooded it to eliminate the bounce on the bottom of the club. You want the club to dig, not slide.
The real secret is in the grip pressure. It must be really, really, soft. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being very tight, my grip pressure is about a 2! Swing back and still hit 2" behind the ball. The club will twist in your hand because of the grip pressure, square the clubface, and the ball will come sailing out. Allow for plenty of roll as this ball will come out with almost no spin!
