Basic Stretches - Fitness Friday #3.

Today I talk about some stretches that I have been doing for over 25 years daily.  These stretches are designed to help you stay flexible through your neck and back.  Also, see some rotational stretches of the lower back and hamstrings, which are important when creating rotational speed in the golf swing.

  1. Take a driver, place it across your shoulders, and get into your golfing posture.  Start turning your shoulders until they cannot turn anymore.  Hold for 10 seconds.  Now take a deep breath and as you exhale, turn a little more.  Hold for 10 seconds.  Another deep breath, hold, breath out, and turn.  You will find you can now turn more than you thought you could.
  2. Hook the club into the small of the back.  Push the hips through without moving the head.  Again, do in both directions.  After a few times, speed it up, moving back and through.
  3. Place the club on your hamstrings and use the club as a lever to pull the hips through as you move through.  Slowly pick up speed.  This will give you the feeling of fast hips!
